My collaboration with [Ryan Packard](https://ryanpackardsounds.org/) on these two sound installations is rooted in a curiosity about desire. Desire being something from outside of us and that happens to us. It is not something we choose. Together we ask how desire disrupts the fixity we imagine holds our identities together. What remains of "us" when desire moves through us? Can the self be porous, provisional, always in negotiation? Coming from different practices, carrying different concerns, we share a sensibility for sound as a material with an agency of its own. How do our relations with a resonant world shape desire? Sound becomes our shared language for these questions: syphoned inward for the self in *On the Intimacies of Pressure*, and overblown outward from within, in *SweetBitter*. Attraction and sensual awareness become embodied, felt. They expose the thresholds between ourselves, our desires and the resonances those relations create.
# SweetBitter
Sound can be an actuator in itself: the speaker's vibration moves objects—magnets, springs, iron filings—that carry no sound of their own, until sympathetic motion turns them into emitters. In SweetBitter, energy passes through layers of plastic and metal, transducing mechanical vibration into acoustic sound. Plastic membranes act as both filter and resonator, shaping this sound as it passes through their surfaces embossed with Braille passages of Sappho's poems. Here, Braille is felt first as a resonant surface. Our touch is amplified across the space and its meaning arrives through vibration before language. With friction, contact transcends touch—as with Eros, felt before it is understood.
# On The Intimacies of Pressure
On the Intimacies of Pressure unfolds as a sound installation where air is funneled through invisible, microscopic passages, held, and released as waves, felt and heard. Sound and pressure are versions of the same phenomenon. Sound is pressure in flux, existing only in motion. The installation narrows pressure into a beam, giving each visitor the fantasy of a private address, a sound meant for them alone. But this containment is an illusion: pressure always exceeds the boundaries we draw around it. Eros works the same way: never fixed or held, but a felt tension between us and desire.
